Iditarod and ANWR

Yesterday two big events happened; there was a winner in the Iditarod sled dog race, and the US Senate voted to allow oil drilling in ANWR. You will want to see a lot of great photos of the
Alaska Iditarod sled dog race.

It is about time that they finally agreed to drill for more oil. You will see many deceptive photos that are not truly ANWR in the popular press. The mountains are far away from where the actual drilling will take place and any photos that show mountains in the background are using very high powered telephoto lenses to deceive the public. In fact the best way to describe what ANWR really is like for over half of the year, I would have to take you into a dark walk-in freezer and hold up a blank sheet of typing paper, which would be the true picture of ANWR.

Here is the temperature graph since January 1st. These are "springs" 5,6, and 7. Each red bar is one day with the high and the low. It is for Anchorage which is about 60 miles north of us by air and 170 miles by road. You can see below that last summer was warmer than average. COME ON GLOBAL WARMING!!!!

Have you heard of Black Sands Beach in Hawaii? We have a similar tourist attraction in Alaska called the Black Iceberg Beach. Anchorage is behind that mountain in the sun. Nobody was lying on their towels on the beach on friday afternoon Posted by Hello

This is what a year old moose will do to your truck. This happened last thursday morning when going to an ER (emergency response) class for work. I tried to go right to get around her, but she went the same direction :( Posted by Hello

spring number 5

Last weekend Lois Ann and i went to Anchorage. Guess what? It was pouring down rain in the mountains. We have about 2 feet of snow in Nikiski on the ground. Near Cooper Landing and in the mountains there was almost no snow on the ground and snow started about half-way up the mountains. Turnagain Pass had about the same amount of snow as us. This has been a very strange and warm winter. It is not like it was in 1888, shown in the photo below. You can click on the photo for a bigger view.

This is a picture of New York during the great blizzard of 1888. My son is an apprentice electrician. I imagine they had a lot of work for electricians in New York.  Posted by Hello

kenai peninsula map Posted by Hello

seems like spring again

We just finished about a week of sometimes below 0 weather. Today it is warm once again with temperatures around 30 degrees F ABOVE. We live in God's country here in Nikiski because our temps were 20-30 degrees warmer than Kenai and Soldotna which were near the 10 BELOW mark much of this last week. Maybe Nikiski gets some warm currents from Cook Inlet.

pauls letters

A while back i read that the apostle Paul's letters were placed in the New testament according to the size of each letter because that is the way the Romans arranged authors works in a collection back in those days. The next few months i am reading them according to the order in which they were written:
Galations---------49AD------Acts 13:12
1Thessalonians---51AD------Acts 18:1
2Thessalonians---52AD------Acts 18:1
1Corinthians-----57AD------Acts 19:22,23
2Corinthians-----57AD------Acts 20:1
Romans-----------58AD------Acts 20:2
(After Acts)
Colossians-------61-62AD
Ephesians--------61-62AD
Philemon---------61-62AD
Philippiand------63AD
1Timothy---------63AD
Titus--------------63AD
2Timothy---------67AD

Here is a picture of the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge that i spotted on yahoo today. I grew up in Duluth and this is the main landmark of the city. Duluth is built on a hill and most everyone can see this from their house or by driving to skyline parkway.  Posted by Hello
